Pfizer is my goal, and I have been positively screened twice. I know that the way you explain and demonstrate interview questions and answers will allow me to achieve my goal. Well, I have bought plenty of books in the past and think I have the interview process down but when I listened to your CD, I learned the most.

So far, I have been on a field ride with a sales rep and have just been invited for a field ride with a rep from another company. Each field ride is part of the hiring process. So I what I'm trying to say is...I am in the process of interviewing with two companies. My question deals with salary and benefits. Neither company has discussed salary and benefits and I haven't asked. When is the appropriate time to discuss salary and benefits? My next question is why is the process so lengthy? It has been one month since one interview and over two weeks since the field ride and I have yet to hear from the DM with whom I interviewed. I have been diligent in my follow-up with him but I have gotten only one response; an email telling me he would contact me soon. The process with the other company has been quicker. At this company I met a recruiter for the company at a job fair and was called for an interview with a District Manager about six weeks later. “Your insights into becoming a pharmaceutical sales representative are invaluable.” Your book arrived yesterday and I finished reading it that night. Although having zero outside sales experience, but many years retail experience, I am not discouraged after reading your book.
 

In fact, it is quite the opposite. The key point for this job’s interview process a is preparedness. I know now that being a polished candidate seems to outweigh any lacking in sales experience. I am diligently combing through my past to have answers to potential questions. This also reinforces that I indeed do have a body of past experiences worth categorizing.


I appreciate what you have done for myself and the industry as well. 
Trying to land that job seems like climbing a mountain at this point. I plan to get business cards of reps and contact them as a means of breaking into the business. It seems to me that when a company throws up a posting of a position on a jobs.com site they must surely get thousand of responses. I feel networking must be a more sensible method. Your book made me realize this fact.
 

I particularly found useful your section on “closing”. Not coming from an outside sales background, I did not know this aspect was such a clincher in the interview process. It makes perfect sense that if you want a career in sales that you actually use sales skills as a daily part of one’s life. What is termed “closing” is something I have already been doing throughout my life anyway. For example, asking that date for the next date after taking her home from dinner and a movie. Or, asking someone when would be a good time to meet with you again. There are numerous examples to draw from and I am pleased that you mentioned how important “closing” is in the pharmaceutical sales world. It gives me hope that I am indeed right for this position.
